We need to make Churches beautiful again. There is a large Assembly of God church in Columbus,GA. They are almost done building a huge, modern, sleek building and I couldn’t be any less excited or impressed. It looks like a a nice business for a tech startup or nice offices, but not a place of worship.
This is the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kansas. When Hambone showed me this, it made me realize that churches are built as houses for God, which we get to visit. My home parish in Virginia, by contrast, reminded me of a bingo-hall with a crucifix in front.
However--a parish that is not as impressive as St. Mary's in Kansas can still be a home to God. Better to make sure God has friends wherever He is.
That’s a good perspective to have. My main concern with buildings like the one I mentioned is that they signal to non-Christians that what matters is how nice, new, modern and expensive the building is and not the fact the it is a place of worship . I think some way some how the building should point the viewer towards Christ, and some how point past it’s own place in the world.
My grandparents were married in that church, and today would have been my great grandmother’s birthday. The timing of this photo posting today is perfect!

Happy birthday to your great grandmother! All in God's good timing. I bet they admired that same stained glass!
Thank you! Indeed. It’s so amazing to think of that!
